Connecting a laptop to a monitor
I have come here after Googling this for an hour and getting nowhere and being driven mad.

I have bought a monitor so I can connect it to my HP Windows 10 laptop. It's connected via HDMI. Seems like the most simple thing in the world but it says no signal and that the monitor is not connected.

How do I get this monitor recognised by the PC?

Help!

Thanks

Purchase an HDMI cable long enough to reach from Laptop to TV, then do as stated below...

I've got an LG monitor connected to an Acer Laptop using an HDMI cable. No issues.

Get a new cable.

Re: Connecting a laptop to a monitor
i have tried everything suggested and got nowhere - do people connect laptops to monitors using HDMI cables?!

The laptop and monitor are both new and seem to work, but they are not recognising that there is anything connected to them.

Urgh.

Re: Connecting a laptop to a monitor
Press the Windows Key and P and choose to project to external screen.

Then make sure HDMI input is selected using monitor source/menu button.

Re: Connecting a laptop to a monitor
If there's more than one HDMI port on the monitor, try the cable in each one - they can be quite fickle.

Try plugging a thumb drive/USB stick in if it has a port and see if it displays the contents of the drive.

As Alan said, there should be an option on the monitor to cycle through the different inputs

I'm assuming that you have selected the HDMI input via the 'Source' button on the monitor.
You have, haven't you?

"yep laptop fine with the TV"

Was that with the same HDMI lead?
If yes, faulty monitor?
If no, try another HDMI lead.

Re: Connecting a laptop to a monitor
In similar circumstances, an IT engineer once told me to unplug the appliance from the wall and plug back in, switch on power and start up, reboot then plug in any further leads. Check that the led lights are all illuminated and you're good to go. If by chance none of the above work repeat until infinitum.

Wiping your knob on the screen has worked in the past for many WHOers

Are you able to plug the laptop into a TV via HDMI?

Re: Connecting a laptop to a monitor
Thanks for the replies - I have tried them all and nothing works! Doing my head in.

Basically it is not picking up that anything is plugged into the HDMI port.

All this tech stuff all beyond me but even this question seems to have got 3/4 different answers, would they all be successful or are some of the "experts" wrong?
